Michael S. Guernier

Michael Guernier is a Managing Director in our New York office and a member of the Firm's Board of Directors. Specializing in all phases of healthcare, education and "unique" or "specialty" not-for-profit financing, Mr. Guernier has worked on over $5 billion of tax-exempt and taxable financings involving hospital and healthcare systems, long-term care providers, colleges and universities, private and secondary schools, endowments and foundations, research organizations, museums and cultural institutions, professional associations and environmental organizations. He is involved in all areas of the healthcare, education and not-for-profit financing process, including the formation of the optimal financing plan, direction of quantitative analysis and coordination of the marketing, sale or placement of debt securities. His recent clients include: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, The Bullis School, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Gonzaga College High School, IDX Systems Corporation, Institute for Defense Analyses, Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, Lehigh Valley Health Network, National Academy of Sciences, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, RAND Corporation, Trinity College and the World Wildlife Fund.
Previously, Mr. Guernier worked at Cain Brothers, Shattuck & Company and also spent three years in public accounting where he gained broad corporate experience from audit and tax engagements in the real estate, healthcare, and securities areas. While at business school, he worked as an Analyst with Merrill Lynch, Pierce Fenner & Smith, Inc., and held a graduate teaching assistant position with Syracuse University's Accounting and Finance Departments. He has had extensive experience in credit analyses and review, the design and implementation of financing strategies, rating agency presentations, the development of variable and fixed rate credit enhanced financing, re-investment of bond proceeds, interest rate swaps and derivatives structuring and execution. In addition, he has worked in the taxable debt arena, both in the long-term care sector and a variety of off-balance sheet real estate financings for healthcare and corporate borrowers.
Mr. Guernier earned his B.B.A. degree from Siena College and his M.B.A. in finance from Syracuse University's School of Management. He also is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA.
